Cold

I'm so unspeakably cold. Trying to warm up at Outbound Station breakfast place w decaf. Shouldn't have put jeans on over my wet Trou before riding the 2' ride here from boathouse in Conshohocken. Unbelievably brutal conditions on the water today. Below freezing, huge winds, just survival rowing... But we werent just surviving, we were executing 3x10' 4'3'2'1', Stroke Rate 24, 26, 28, 30. I could barely hold onto my oar handles. Waves crashing over bow. So hysterically bad conditions. But it's still better than not being able to do this at all. Even on dangerous mornings like this, alone out there banging away, it's just so satisfying and rewarding just to row, knowing its one more investment in future gains, one more piece of the puzzle.

  1. Looks like pretty calm conditions. Waves splashing over the boat? You must be an awful rower or something ;-)

  2. Always room for improvement! In Conshohocken where we row, the wind builds as you go downstream, the straightaway (shown here) is always relatively protected, around the corner out of sight is where wind starts to pick up, today was about 20+ mph headwind going upstream. The whitecaps were not coming over the sides - they were going all the way up the bow to the splashguard! Probably would have stayed in if we'd known it would be like this.
